Corruption Scheme Uncovered in Military Unit

According to Главком: In a joint operation, Ukraine's State Bureau of Investigation and the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) have exposed a platoon commander from an Air Force unit for misappropriating equipment vital for combat duty and safeguarding the airspace of the Kyiv region. The serviceman has been formally notified of suspicion for seizing military property by abusing his official position during martial law, an offense under Part 4 of Article 410 of Ukraine's Criminal Code. This charge carries a potential sentence of up to 15 years imprisonment. This case highlights the severe consequences of corruption in a sector where resources are critical for national survival.

The stolen property includes:

• Monitors of various sizes
• Tablets with mobile internet access

As noted by the DBR press service,

"Instead of providing his unit with the necessary equipment, the serviceman sold it. This was the very technology mobile groups were supposed to use to repel enemy attacks."

Additional Suspects and Investigations

Furthermore, under the procedural guidance of prosecutors from the Office of the Prosecutor General, suspicion has also been announced for the logistics commander of the Air Force Command and the head of the SBU Directorate in the Zhytomyr region. They are accused of exceeding their authority and official powers, committed by a group of individuals in collusion under martial law, as well as offering and providing an unlawful benefit to an official.

In a separate but related case, the Office of the Prosecutor General and the SBU uncovered a scheme to embezzle budget funds allocated for constructing protective structures for combat aircraft, causing losses of 1.4 billion hryvnias. High-ranking officials were involved in this fraud.

These incidents underscore serious issues with military property management during wartime, where every piece of equipment is critical for national defense. The exposure of high-level corruption schemes raises concerns about the effectiveness of oversight for budget funds and military assets, a particularly urgent matter as the conflict continues.
