According to glavcom.ua: Sailors traveling along the Spanish coast are urged to remain in ports after orcas changed their tactics. They are now attacking yachts near the shore in shallow waters, causing serious concern among experts and sailors. Over the past week, several incidents of orcas ramming sailboats have been reported in areas where such attacks had not previously occurred.

New attacks have been recorded in the Bay of Biscay near Spain's northern coast. Several yachts were attacked, but fortunately, there were no injuries. Scientists cannot explain the cause of this aggressive behavior among orcas, considering it to be either a 'game' or a 'social whim' among a specific population of marine mammals.

Recommendations for sailors

  • Stay in ports if possible.
  • Avoid deep waters and stay in shallow areas.
  • In case of contact with orcas, immediately turn off the engine and lower the sails.
  • Avoid loud noises to prevent provoking the animals.
  • Do not attempt to repel orcas.

Spanish authorities and marine experts advise adhering to these rules to avoid danger. Attacks occur on sailboats less than 15 meters long, leading to the sinking of several yachts and highlighting the seriousness of the situation.

Furthermore, recently some beaches in Spain have been temporarily closed due to the appearance of venomous sea slugs called 'blue dragons,' which pose a threat to humans even in their small size.

The Spanish coast has become dangerous for sailors due to the new attack tactics of orcas. These animals are attacking sailboats in shallow waters, resulting in serious consequences. Local experts and authorities are urging sailors to follow certain rules to avoid danger. Caution should also be exercised on beaches where poisonous sea slugs may be encountered.
