According to glavcom.ua: Ukrainian tennis player Marta Kostiuk advanced to the third round of the US Open by defeating Turkish athlete Zeynep Sonmez in the second round. This information is reported by 'Hromadske' with reference to 'Public Sport'.
Marta became the only Ukrainian tennis player to make it past the first round of the US Open, while Dayana Yastremska, Elina Svitolina, and Yulia Starodubtseva were eliminated from the tournament.
Marta started the first set with a surge, winning three games in a row. Sonmez managed to equalize the score, but on the final stretch, the Ukrainian secured victory 7:5.
In the second set, Sonmez initially took the initiative, but Kostiuk showed character and managed to win the tiebreak, ensuring her victory with a score of 7:6.
