Interesting changes in the plans of Ukrainians seeking asylum in Ireland. It turns out that while last year more than 40% of them planned to stay in the country, in 2022 this figure has dropped to just over 20%. This information was provided by the Ukrainian ambassador to Ireland, Larysa Gerasko, in an interview with the publication 'Hlavkom'. She explained that these data were obtained as a result of a conducted survey.

«I am convinced that if we conducted such a study this year, this figure would increase to almost 50%. A similar situation is observed throughout Europe, where Ukrainian internally displaced persons live. However, it is important to separate tourism from immigration,» the diplomat explained.

The ambassador also noted that there are many people in Ireland from occupied territories such as Mariupol and Kharkiv region who need help due to loss of housing and other issues.

Recently, new rules have been introduced in Ireland for providing housing and social assistance to newly arrived refugees from Ukraine. Now such individuals can receive temporary residency for 90 days with the possibility of receiving financial support.

Ukrainians in Ireland are changing their plans regarding staying in the country, and the new rules for assisting newly arrived refugees regulate the provision of housing and social support.
