Western Support and Advances in Ukraine's Military Technology

According to ХВИЛЯ: Former Polish President Aleksander Kwasniewski acknowledged that although the West has provided Ukraine with nearly all the necessary assistance over the five years of conflict, this support often came too late. Initially, Western allies doubted Ukraine’s resilience under pressure and hesitated over supplying each new type of weapon. Over time, refusals gradually turned into approvals-but consistently behind schedule.

“Every Western refusal eventually became a yes, but always delayed,” Kwasniewski remarked.

The Crucial Role of Patriot Missile Production Rights

Kwasniewski highlighted Ukraine’s success in independently developing drones, which are now actively deployed in military operations. Notably, Ukrainian drones struck oil refineries in Salavat and Omsk on October 8, followed by an attack on Ukhta on October 9-located roughly 1,900 kilometers from Ukraine’s border. These actions demonstrate significant advancements by Ukrainian engineers in military technology.

“Ukrainian drones are operating deep within Russian territory,” Kwasniewski emphasized.

He also stressed the importance of former U.S. President Donald Trump’s pledge to grant Ukraine a license to produce Patriot air defense systems domestically. Kwasniewski argued this development could greatly enhance Ukraine’s defenses, diminishing Russia’s advantage in ballistic missile strikes. Ukrainian engineers won’t need five to seven years to develop their own systems, enabling more effective protection against aggression.

“Ukraine must be empowered to defend itself more efficiently so Russia understands that its aggression must end as soon as possible,” Kwasniewski concluded.

Kwasniewski’s insights highlight the critical nature of international support for Ukraine amid ongoing conflict and reveal a shift in how Western allies perceive the Ukrainian military’s capabilities. The recognition of Ukraine’s progress in drone technology underscores the country’s ability to adapt and innovate with indigenous military solutions, potentially influencing the conflict’s trajectory. His stance on the Patriot production license points to a strategic path that could significantly bolster Ukraine’s future defense capacity.
