Kyiv City Express Train Service Resumes on Pochaina-Raiduzhnyi Bridge Following Repairs
Train Operations Restored on Bridge Linking Pochaina and Raiduzhnyi Stations
According to Главком: Starting June 28, 2026, Kyiv City Express will resume train service across the bridge connecting Pochaina and Raiduzhnyi stations after a two-month repair period that ran from April 29 to June 27. The announcement was made by the Kyiv City Express press office on June 24. Upgrades included reinforcement of load-bearing structures, installation of new track components, and anti-corrosion treatment-measures that, according to the press service,
“will extend the bridge's lifespan and improve the safety of train operations.”
During the repair work, the city commuter rail operated on a modified schedule. Starting June 28, the Bessarabia train will also begin daily service on the Kyiv–Chișinău route. This move is intended to strengthen transportation links between the two capitals, offering more convenient travel options for passengers.
Constitution Day Celebrations with Historic Steam Trains
In addition, to mark Ukraine's Constitution Day, Ukrzaliznytsia will run special trips aboard historic steam locomotives on June 27–28. Two vintage engines will be featured:
- Steam locomotive 159 No. 4-95, recognized as the oldest operational steam engine in Ukraine;
- Steam locomotive Er 798-71, built in 1954.
The first Summer Steam Weekend of 2026 will take place on the Haivoron narrow-gauge railway.
Resuming traffic over the Pochaina–Raiduzhnyi bridge marks a significant step forward for Kyiv's transport infrastructure, enhancing both convenience and safety for commuters. The introduction of the Bessarabia train on a daily schedule also reflects growing demand for intercity connections, which could boost economic activity across the region.
Organizing festive events for Constitution Day and running historic steam locomotives adds a cultural dimension, drawing public attention to Ukraine's railway heritage. This initiative may help promote tourism by encouraging greater interest in rail travel and its history.
As the city gears up for the resumption of train services, it's worth noting that special events are also on the horizon. To celebrate Ukraine's Constitution Day, Ukrainian Railways will feature historic steam locomotives for unique rides, showcasing the rich heritage of rail travel in the country. These celebrations not only honor the nation’s history but also highlight the ongoing enhancements in the rail network, aimed at improving passenger experiences across the region.
