Lomachenko Took to Quoting the Bible Due to Onupriy's Russian Passport
According to glavcom.ua: Former world boxing champion Vasyl Lomachenko expressed his support for Metropolitan Onupriy after his Ukrainian citizenship was revoked. In his Facebook post, Lomachenko stated that they may take away the passport, but they cannot take away faith and love.
«A person can have their passport taken away, lose everything earthly, but Love and Faith cannot be taken! Esteemed Blessed Metropolitan Onupriy is a person whom the Lord has placed in his position for the balance in the fight against enemies!»
It is worth noting that Onupriy lost his Ukrainian citizenship because he obtained a Russian passport in 2002. This information was revealed recently. He did not inform the Ukrainian authorities about having a second passport, yet still used Ukrainian citizenship.
Reaction of the UOC to the investigation
After it became known that some clergy of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church hold Russian passports, the community received shocking information. The head of the UOC MP, Metropolitan Ionafan of Tulchin, and Bishop Sergey of Ladyzhyn also found themselves among those who received Russian citizenship.
