Intense Russian Strikes Hit Ukraine Overnight on October 7

According to Рубрика — Суспільство: In the early hours of October 7, Ukraine was subjected to a large-scale offensive launched by Russian forces, resulting in at least 11 fatalities and more than 30 wounded. The hardest hit area was Pryluky in the Chernihiv region, where a five-story residential building was demolished by the attack. Victims include residents of Pryluky, Kyiv, Oleksandriia, and several other cities. Official reports indicate that five people died and 26 were injured in Pryluky alone, including five children. Rescue teams fear that there may still be individuals trapped beneath the rubble.

Damage and Casualties Across Multiple Cities

The city of Dnipro saw damage to five apartment complexes as a result of the strikes. In Kremenchuk, four multi-story buildings were hit, with two fatalities and eight injuries recorded. Zaporizhzhia experienced damage to a high-rise building caused by a Russian drone. In Oleksandriia, two people lost their lives-including one woman-three were wounded, and two remain unaccounted for. Kyiv was also affected, with two deaths reported and two people rescued from a fire in the Darnytskyi district. The attacks targeted critical infrastructure in Kyiv and across 12 other oblasts.

According to available data, the Russian forces deployed:

  • 157 Shahed-type strike drones;
  • drone decoys;
  • 70 missiles, many of which were ballistic.

Ukraine’s air defense successfully intercepted the majority of incoming aerial threats. President Volodymyr Zelensky commented on the attack:

“On Putin’s birthday, the Russian military ‘gifted’ the destruction of a residential building in Pryluky, Chernihiv region. It was a typical five-story apartment block. Sadly, as of now, five people have died and 26 have been injured, including five children. There may still be people trapped under the debris.” – Volodymyr Zelensky

He emphasized the critical role of air defense systems, stating that “Russian ballistic missiles remain the greatest threat” and describing the delivery of air defense packages as “a matter of life and death” for Ukraine. Rescue teams continue their efforts at the strike sites, searching for any survivors beneath the wreckage.

This attack is part of a series of escalations in the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia, underscoring the urgent need for international support to bolster Ukraine’s air defense capabilities. Such assaults inflict severe human and material losses. The incident may also prompt renewed discussions among Western allies regarding increased aid and enhanced defensive measures in the region.

The recent escalation in Russian aggression is not an isolated incident.
