Starting the pursuit from 42nd position, Merkushyna's high shooting speed was offset by five penalty loops, which severely impacted her final standing. After finishing, she spoke with the press service of the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine to share her thoughts on the race.

“I took some risks. Today, in principle, I didn't have much to lose. I could experiment. I wouldn't say the Olympics is the time for experiments, but there was an unfortunate technical error in there somewhere.”

The athlete also commented on her physical condition and her skis: “I wouldn't say my skis were super today. I felt good physically today and could work with that, could fight. Merkushyna emphasized the importance of the experience gained at her first Olympics: “Of course, this is the first Olympics, God willing, there will be a second and a third.
