Hands-On Training for Child- and Gender-Responsive Budgeting in Education

According to Мінфін: With financial backing from Germany's Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development via KfW, Ukraine's Ministry of Finance, UNICEF Ukraine, and the Ministry of Education and Science have conducted a practical training session for regional representatives. The focus was on implementing child- and gender-responsive budgeting within the education sector. This initiative is part of broader reforms to modernize public spending in Ukraine following the 2022 invasion.

The training aims to equip regional officials with new budgeting methodologies. These approaches are designed not only to enhance the quality of educational services but also to ensure a safe and inclusive environment for all students. As Lesia Ivaniushchuk noted,

"Child- and gender-responsive budgeting is a tool that ensures the budget has a tangible impact on the quality of education."

Key Focus Areas of the Training

Key topics covered during the session included the efficient use of public funds to improve educational outcomes. Participation in such programs fosters the development of new practices in the education sector, which is expected to positively influence future generations.

This training represents a component of the Ukrainian government's efforts, supported by international partners, to refine the education system. It is particularly crucial in the current context to guarantee equitable access to quality education for all children. Adopting child- and gender-responsive budgeting could mark a significant step in implementing policies that support the rights of children and youth across Ukraine.
