Ukraine's Foreign Minister Seeks Stronger Ties with Panama, Invites Delegation
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Visits Panama
According to МЗС: On March 13, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha visited Panama's National Assembly. The trip coincided with the establishment of the Panama-Ukraine Parliamentary Friendship Group, an initiative designed to strengthen legislative ties between the two nations. During the meeting, Minister Sybiha explored avenues for bilateral cooperation and formally invited the group's chair and members to visit Ukraine.
Andrii Sybiha underscored the significance of parliamentary friendship, stating: 'Friendship between parliaments is more than just diplomacy. It is about trust between people, nations, and generations. The Panama Canal connected oceans. The Panama-Ukraine Friendship Group will connect our peoples. The front line in Ukraine is also a front line for freedom and international law. That is why supporting Ukraine is not a matter of geography, but a matter of principle.'
Areas for Enhanced Cooperation
In their discussions, the Minister highlighted several key sectors with potential for expanded partnership, including:
- Agriculture
- Food Security
- Digital Technology
- Drone Technology
This focus illustrates Ukraine's commitment to actively developing a multifaceted partnership with Panama. This outreach to Latin America is part of Ukraine's broader diplomatic strategy to build global support.
The Foreign Minister's visit marks a significant step in bolstering diplomatic relations between the two countries, which have historically had limited engagement. The creation of the Parliamentary Friendship Group could lay the groundwork for closer collaboration in economic and social spheres, aligning with the interests of both states. The emphasis on agriculture and digital technology also reflects contemporary trends in international relations and global development.
