Міністерство оборони України представило нові правила безпеки під час авіанальотів, що стосуються залізничного транспорту.

Railway Operations During Air Raid Alarms

According to Главком: The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense has clarified the procedures for railway operations when air raid sirens sound. According to Defense Ministry advisor Serhiy Beskrestnov, passenger evacuations will only occur when a specific, confirmed threat is identified against a particular train, not automatically upon the alarm's activation. The primary criterion for such actions is data from a dedicated monitoring group, not merely the sounding of the sirens.

Through the joint efforts of Ukrzaliznytsia specialists and the military, several hundred trains have been moved out of harm's way. Ukrzaliznytsia has also provided an explanation of the action algorithm to be followed during aerial threats. Serhiy Beskrestnov emphasized:

"If a 'Shahed' drone hits a carriage with people inside, it will become a mass grave. That is why I urge passengers to move at least a hundred meters away from the train." - Serhiy Beskrestnov

He stressed that there have been instances where Russian manually-guided drones have altered their missions to attack trains spotted along their flight paths.

Train Delays and New Passenger Services

On April 1, Ukrzaliznytsia warned of potential delays for some trains. As delay times can vary, passengers are advised to pay close attention to announcements at stations and terminals.

Furthermore, Ukrzaliznytsia passengers now have the option to order a range of items for delivery to their seats, including:

  • Food
  • Beverages
  • Sweets
  • Books
  • Dog treats

The onboard menu features items such as:

  • Parmesan porridge
  • Noodles with chicken and vegetables
  • Soup or granola

For younger travelers, smoothies, fruit bars, and strips are available.

These new protocols reflect the ongoing challenges Ukraine faces under persistent military threat. They are designed to ensure passenger safety and mitigate risks during air raids, a critical necessity given Russia's continued use of drone and missile attacks. Ukrzaliznytsia continues to work on service improvements, focusing not only on security but also on enhancing passenger comfort during journeys. These measures demonstrate the adaptation of national infrastructure to the country's evolving security conditions, where daily life must proceed alongside the realities of war.

As the situation evolves, it is crucial to understand the risks faced by railway passengers during air raids. Recent incidents have highlighted the urgent need for effective evacuation protocols, as detailed in a report about passengers forced to seek shelter beneath trains amid drone attacks.
