Ukraine's Ministry of Defense Introduces Automatic Removal of Reservists Upon Reaching Age Limits
Automatic Deregistration of Reservists and Military Personnel
According to Рубрика — Суспільство: The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine has implemented a system that automatically removes reservists and those liable for military service from the official registry once they reach the maximum age allowed for reserve status. For most individuals, this age limit is set at 60 years, while senior officers are allowed to remain until 65. Senior officer ranks include:
- Brigadier General
- Major General
- Lieutenant General
- General
- Commodore
- Rear Admiral
- Vice Admiral
- Admiral
Previously, reservists had to personally visit Territorial Recruitment and Social Support Centers (TRSSC) to update their military registration status. Now, this process is automated through the 'Oberig' registry, which daily verifies birthdates and military ranks. Once a person reaches the defined age limit, the system automatically removes them from the military records and cancels any active deferments or exemptions.
Following this update, the 'Reserve+' system sends notifications prompting users to refresh their military identification documents within the application. If the status remains unchanged, users are advised to log in again, update their documents, or contact the TRSSC to verify the registry data. The Ministry emphasizes:
'Reaching the maximum age for reserve status means an individual is no longer required to be registered for military service.'
Implications of the New Procedure
This updated approach does not nullify any prior violations of military registration rules that occurred before reaching the age limit; these must still be addressed separately. Some fines can be paid online via 'Reserve+' by submitting a request and awaiting a decision from the TRSSC. Issues that cannot be resolved digitally require direct communication with the TRSSC. Failure to comply with mobilization orders must also be handled exclusively through these centers. Furthermore, if the TRSSC has involved the National Police over registration violations, these investigations continue even after the individual's deregistration.
The shift to automatic deregistration streamlines administrative responsibilities for reservists and conscripts, reducing the workload on Territorial Recruitment Centers and minimizing the chance of record-keeping errors. At the same time, it reinforces the importance of complying with military registration regulations, since past infractions retain their legal validity and must be settled independently.
For international observers, this modernization reflects Ukraine’s ongoing efforts to adapt its military administrative systems amid evolving national defense requirements.
