ITF to develop a road safety strategy for Ukraine: what will change by 2036
The International Transport Forum (ITF), which unites 69 countries, has started developing a ten-year National Road Safety Strategy for Ukraine. This initiative was proposed by the Ministry of Community and Territorial Development of Ukraine.
New Strategy for Road Safety in Ukraine
According to the Ministry of Development, the development of the new National Road Safety Strategy will be handled by the Ukraine Transport Interest Group (CIG4U) of the International Transport Forum in collaboration with the non-profit organization on road safety EASST.
The new National Road Safety Strategy will create the foundation for a significant reduction in the number of fatal accidents over the next decade. It will be based on the Safe System Approach - an acknowledged methodology that helps reduce the number of serious traffic accidents and save lives.
This approach involves making decisions based on data, as well as shared responsibility among government institutions and society.
The developed Strategy will be directly linked to the National Transport Strategy of Ukraine until 2030 and will define road safety as a key factor in sustainable socio-economic development and the country's reconstruction.
The International Transport Forum has already begun a project to develop a new National Road Safety Strategy for Ukraine with the participation of specialists and organizations aimed at reducing the number of fatal traffic accidents and improving overall safety on the country's roads. The new strategy will be based on the Safe System Approach and aimed at sustainable socio-economic improvement of traffic in Ukraine.
