Mudrik may return to Shakhtar: Srna responded regarding the winger's loan

Donetsk's Shakhtar does not rule out the possibility of Mykhailo Mudrik returning on loan. The club's sports director Dario Srna stated that the doors are open for the former player, although he did not confirm any specific negotiations. In August, Mudrik had his four-year ban lifted, after which he was able to resume his career. This is reported by Sportnews.

Is Shakhtar ready to loan Mykhailo Mudrik

Srna emphasized that Shakhtar maintains a special attitude towards players who previously played for the team. According to him, this also applies to Mudrik, who went through an important stage of his career with the Donetsk team.

«Regarding the possible return of Misha to Shakhtar on loan - for Mudrik, as for all our former players, the doors of Shakhtar are always open», - stated Srna.

At the same time, the sports director's words do not mean that the club is already in negotiations regarding a transfer. Srna separately noted that the possibility of a deal would depend on the needs of the team and the situation at a specific position.

«Whether we can agree - that's another question. Whether we need a player of this particular position at this time or not - is also a separate question», - explained the sports director.

Thus, for now, it concerns the principle readiness of Shakhtar to consider the return of its graduate, rather than an agreed loan or official negotiations.

Srna has previously spoken multiple times about the special attitude towards former players of the Donetsk team. Recently, he also named the best players of Shakhtar over the last two decades.

Mudrik brought Shakhtar a record transfer

Mykhailo Mudrik left Shakhtar in January 2023, moving to London’s Chelsea. The base amount of the transfer was 70 million euros, with another 30 million euros expected in bonuses.

In the spring of 2026, those bonuses were at risk due to the Ukrainian's doping case. The general director of Shakhtar, Serhiy Palkin, then stated that the club risked losing 30 million euros if Mudrik did not play for an extended period.

In August, the situation changed after the four-year ban was lifted. This allowed the Ukrainian winger to return to professional football.

Srna's words keep Shakhtar as one of the potential options for Mudrik in the future, but the sports director made it clear: mere willingness from the club to support a former player is not enough for a loan. Sports necessity and the possibility of negotiating the terms of the transfer are needed.
