Міністерство закордонних справ України висловило протест щодо приїзду Вуді Аллена до столиці Росії: що відомо з цього приводу.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine expressed its outrage over the participation of American director Woody Allen in the Moscow International Film Week. According to the portal 'Gubernia', the Ministry stated that this is an insult to Ukrainian filmmakers and actors who have become victims of Russian aggression against Ukraine.

'The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine categorically condemns the participation of American director Woody Allen in the Moscow International Film Week. This is a disgrace and an insult to the victims of Ukrainian actors and filmmakers who have been killed or injured by Russian war criminals during the aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine. By participating in a festival that unites supporters and mouthpieces of Putin, Allen consciously turns a blind eye to the atrocities that Russia commits in Ukraine every day for the past 11 years'

The statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs also emphasizes that culture should not be used for propaganda or whitewashing crimes.

During his participation in the Moscow event, director Woody Allen expressed his admiration for Russian cinema, mentioning that he well received the film 'War and Peace' and his meeting with Russian colleague Sergey Bondarchuk. However, when asked about the possibility of shooting in Russia, Woody Allen replied that he currently has no such proposals.

'If such proposals arose, I would approach and think about a script about the feeling of comfort in Moscow and St. Petersburg'

It is worth noting that in 2023, during his participation in the Venice Film Festival, Woody Allen faced negative reception from the audience, reflecting their dissatisfaction with his visit.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine expressed discontent regarding Woody Allen's participation in the Moscow film festival and considers it an insult to Ukrainian filmmakers and actors who have suffered from Russian aggression. The director expressed fondness for Russian cinema, but when asked about filming proposals in Russia, replied that there are currently none.
