Introduction of a Ukrainian-Language Audio Guide in Mallorca

According to Рубрика — Суспільство: On the Spanish island of Mallorca, visitors can now experience a Ukrainian-language audio guide dedicated to the La Seu Cathedral. This innovative service offers an in-depth look at the cathedral’s rich history, architectural features, and artistic treasures. The initiative was announced by the Ukrainian Consulate General in Barcelona, marking a significant advancement for promoting Ukrainian culture internationally.

The audio guide provides detailed insights into key areas of the cathedral, including:

  • the old sacristy
  • the bell tower
  • the main nave
  • the chapels
  • the choir
  • the organ
  • the archive

The first guests to benefit from this new service were 50 children of Ukrainian servicemen currently staying in Mallorca for rest and rehabilitation. At the conclusion of their visit, they received books in both Ukrainian and Spanish, providing a meaningful souvenir to complement their experience.

Olena Tronina, Ukraine’s Consul General in Barcelona, highlighted the project’s role in strengthening the presence of the Ukrainian language on the global stage.

She emphasized that this audio guide symbolizes the resilience of Ukrainian culture and the arts, a message especially poignant amid ongoing efforts by Russia to destroy Ukrainian churches, schools, and literature, as noted by Volodymyr Nosov, the Honorary Consul of Ukraine in Mallorca.

Part of a Worldwide Initiative to Promote Ukrainian Heritage

This launch is part of a broader cultural campaign led by Ukraine’s First Lady, Olena Zelenska, aimed at expanding the availability of Ukrainian-language audio guides across top museums and historic sites worldwide. As of August 2026, there are 125 Ukrainian audio guides operating in 59 countries, including recent additions in Denmark, Germany, and France. Moreover, a Ukrainian audio guide has recently been introduced on City Sightseeing Worldwide Hop-On Hop-Off tours in Toronto.

The introduction of the Ukrainian audio guide in Mallorca underscores the vital importance of preserving and promoting Ukrainian culture beyond its borders, especially in the face of contemporary challenges. This project not only enriches the experience of Ukrainian visitors but also showcases the enduring strength of Ukrainian identity on the international stage, a statement that resonates deeply given current global circumstances.

In addition to the launch of the Ukrainian audio guide at La Seu Cathedral, Ukraine is actively enhancing accessibility in the arts through various initiatives. A notable example is the recent establishment of a comprehensive film catalog that features Ukrainian audio descriptions for visually impaired audiences. This effort further underscores the commitment to promoting Ukrainian culture and making it accessible to all.
