UEFA does not care about the war in Ukraine - will hold an international tournament in Russia

UEFA plans to organize a development international tournament for youth national teams in Volgograd, Russia, in May 2023.

The Ukrainian Football Association has sought clarification from the organization's Secretary General Theodore Theodoridis on its website.

'We are concerned about the recent news on the RFU website and in local media that Russia will host a football tournament for youth national teams under the UEFA aegis,' the statement reads.

The UAF believes that holding such a tournament would violate the sanctions imposed by FIFA and UEFA on Russia.

'Given UEFA's clear stance on the war in Ukraine and a number of decisive actions, such as the decision to suspend Russian teams, if the RFU's statement is true, this tournament will be the first international event held in the aggressor country since the start of the war in Ukraine, condemned by the entire civilized world,' it adds.

The UAF believes that the RFU's statement is false, therefore they have sought confirmation.

Previously, the UAF demanded Iran's suspension from the 2022 World Cup and Russia's exclusion from FIFA and UEFA, but no response was received.

The Russian national football team was not allowed to participate in Euro 2024.
