On the thief's head burns the hat: Putin urgently changes laws to hide presence in Donbas

Russia is increasingly departing from the concept of democracy. From now on, Russian journalists can be imprisoned allegedly 'for treason' for objectively covering events in eastern Ukraine.

Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree banning the disclosure of military fatalities in peacetime, apparently wanting to hide evidence of Russian military involvement in the war in eastern Ukraine.

The decree was published on the government information portal. It adds to the list of state secrets deaths of military personnel 'in peacetime during special operations' already classified 'information revealing losses of personnel in wartime.'

Amnesty International condemned the new decree from the Russian president on state secrecy as an infringement on press freedom and a blatant attempt to hide illegal involvement in the conflict with a sovereign neighbor.

'This decree is not only a flagrant attack on freedom of expression, but it also has sinister undertones that will activate speculation about President Putin wanting to hide something, particularly the losses incurred by the Russian army in Ukraine', stated John Dalhuisen, director of Amnesty International's program in Europe and Central Asia.

As is known, Putin has previously denied the movement of Russian troops and the sending of weapons to pro-Russian separatists, who are waging war against Ukrainian ATO forces for control of the eastern industrial part of the country along the basin of the Don River, known as Donbass.

However, captured Ukrainian fighters, including two special forces officers taken prisoner this month, admitted to Ukrainian authorities that they were dispatched by the Russian military to assist the separatists.

World media has also recently reported the discovery of graves of Russian soldiers, whose bodies were returned from Donbass. In addition, recent confirmations have emerged of Russians using special mobile crematoriums to burn the bodies of their compatriots and hide losses.

Moreover, a team of analysts called the 'Atlantic Council' released a report, which proved Russia's military presence in Donbass using various online services, such as YouTube, Google Maps, and social media.

UN agencies estimated the number of deaths in the Ukrainian-Russian conflict at 6300 people - many of whom are civilians.
