Corruption Case in the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine

According to Главком: The National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAP) referred to the court a case regarding the embezzlement of funds from the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, amounting to over 27 million hryvnias. This case concerns the procurement of tires for military aircraft and was discovered in June 2025.

As part of the investigation, it was established that the Armed Forces of Ukraine overpaid 27.3 million hryvnias for components. Among those who will face trial:

• former assistant to a member of the Ukrainian parliament,
• former officials of the Ministry of Defense,
• an entrepreneur.

The case is being investigated by NABU and SAP, which completed the preliminary investigation into the corruption case in the Ministry of Regions on December 31.

Among the suspects in the case is former Deputy Prime Minister Oleksiy Chernyshov. The situation indicates serious problems with corruption in state procurement, requiring further actions from law enforcement agencies to ensure legality and transparency in the financing of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

This case is further evidence of systemic problems with corruption in state procurement in Ukraine, especially in critical areas such as defense.

It underscores the need to continue reforms in the state procurement system and to strengthen control over the use of budget funds, which is essential for ensuring national security and public trust in state institutions.
