China Debuts World’s Longest Bridge and Highest Bridge, Showcasing Engineering Prowess
The World’s Longest Bridge Unveiled
According to УНІАН — Туризм: Stretching an astonishing 165 kilometers, the Danyang-Kunshan Viaduct in China holds the record as the longest bridge on the planet. Completed between 2006 and 2010, this remarkable structure required the efforts of over 10,000 workers and cost approximately $8.5 billion. The viaduct spans lakes, canals, and fields within the Yangtze River delta, forming a crucial segment of the high-speed rail link connecting Beijing and Shanghai.
Cutting-Edge Infrastructure and New Milestones
Designed exclusively for high-speed trains, the Danyang-Kunshan Viaduct does not accommodate road traffic. Its extensive network of supports elevates the railway above challenging terrain, including marshy land where constructing sturdy foundations was particularly complex. This infrastructure has dramatically reduced travel times between China’s capital and its largest city, slashing the journey by more than half.
In addition, China recently opened the world’s tallest bridge, the Huajiang Bridge in Guizhou province. Towering 625 meters above the river below, this bridge stretches 2,890 meters in total length, with a main span reaching 1,420 meters. Inaugurated in 2025, the Huajiang Bridge has quickly become a notable tourist attraction due to its breathtaking height and engineering significance.
These projects highlight China’s ongoing commitment to advancing its transport infrastructure through ambitious engineering feats. Beyond improving connectivity and travel efficiency, such landmark constructions foster economic growth by attracting investment and tourism. Modern bridges like these play an indispensable role in enhancing logistics and transportation networks worldwide.
