The Ministry of Education announced a science reform: what awaits researchers from 2026
The Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine has announced important changes that will affect the country's scientific community starting in 2026. One of the key initiatives is the creation of a 'National Researcher System' and a new funding formula aimed at supporting young scientists and stimulating competition.
Minister of Education and Science Oksen Lisovyi presented a ranking of individual achievements of researchers, according to which the first 2,600 leaders will receive a scholarship of 10,000 hryvnias per month. These measures are designed to support young scientists, their mobility, and stimulate competition among research institutions.
Additionally, it was noted that from 2026 a new basic funding formula for research institutions will be in effect, based on the results of state certification. This will allow funds to be allocated more effectively, providing additional financial support only to those institutions that have confirmed their high efficiency during certification.
As a result, the new initiatives of the Ministry of Education and Science will contribute to increasing the level of competition in the scientific environment, developing young scientists, and more efficient use of funds for scientific research in Ukraine.
