Odesa Journalists Get NACP Training on Tools to Fight Corruption

NACP Holds Workshop for Odesa Journalists and Civil Activists

According to НАЗК: The National Agency on Corruption Prevention (NACP) has organised a workshop for journalists and civic activists from the Odesa region, focused on making effective use of anti-corruption mechanisms. Media representatives and members of civil society organisations took part, learning how to report corruption and what procedures to follow when submitting cases to the relevant authorities.

During the session, participants examined real-world examples where journalistic reports and investigations prompted responses from both the NACP and law enforcement agencies. They also carried out practical exercises aimed at finding information on the NACP’s online platforms. Agency specialists outlined their main areas of work, including:

• full verification of asset declarations,
• monitoring of lifestyles,
• development of information systems,
• analytical activities, and
• information security.

In addition, participants and a guest expert discussed tools for monitoring the public sector, as well as strategies for countering disinformation and attempts to discredit anti-corruption efforts. This workshop is one in a series of training events for regional media run by the NACP together with UNDP Ukraine, with financial support from the Government of Japan through the Embassy of Japan in Ukraine. Such engagement is increasingly important as local journalists play a key role in uncovering corruption across Ukrainian regions.

Why Stronger Cooperation Matters in the Fight Against Corruption

The event underscores how vital cooperation between anti-corruption bodies and the media is for tackling corruption. When journalists and civic activists are actively involved, the chances of detecting and investigating corrupt practices improve considerably. Continuing these initiatives will help strengthen Ukraine’s anti-corruption framework and make the public more aware of the mechanisms available to fight corruption.

In addition to the training provided for journalists in Odesa, it's essential to recognize the broader efforts to enhance integrity within public service. Recently, top civil servants completed integrity training at the National Anti-Corruption Agency, highlighting the commitment to fostering accountability and transparency across various sectors. Such initiatives are crucial in building a united front against corruption in Ukraine.
