National Bank of Ukraine Boosts Cash Currency Supply as Hryvnia Strengthens; Exchange Operations to Continue
National Bank of Ukraine's Currency Exchange Activities on November 4, 2026
According to НБУ: On November 4, 2026, the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) conducted currency exchange operations, converting banks' non-cash foreign currency holdings into cash to replenish cash reserves. The total currency offered far surpassed the actual demand from banks, indicating a healthy supply of foreign currency in cash form. The NBU announced availability of $50 million USD and €50 million euros, while banks submitted requests totaling $40 million USD and €21.4 million euros. All requests were fully fulfilled.
Upcoming Measures and Market Impact
Data from the NBU shows that the currency offered during operations on both November 3 and 4 was more than three times the banks' actual demand. The official hryvnia exchange rate for November 5, 2026, was set at 45.5 UAH per US dollar. Meanwhile, the cash market’s selling rate of the US dollar on November 4 stood at 46.4 UAH per dollar.
The National Bank intends to continue these currency exchange operations on November 5 to maintain liquidity in the foreign exchange market. Operating under a managed flexible exchange rate regime, the hryvnia's value is expected to fluctuate in both directions, potentially affecting future currency market movements.
These NBU operations reflect an active regulatory approach to managing foreign currency reserves and supporting stability in the exchange market.
With currency supply significantly exceeding demand, the NBU demonstrates its readiness to address liquidity shifts and equip the banking system with needed resources. The regulator’s ongoing interventions are likely to influence exchange rate trends and broader economic conditions in Ukraine.
