New Commemorative Coin Enters Circulation

According to Главком: The National Bank of Ukraine has released a new commemorative coin inspired by Ukrainian folklore, titled 'Kyrylo Kozhumyaka'. With a face value of 5 hryvnias and crafted from nickel silver, the coin pays tribute to a classic folk tale. A maximum of 75,000 units will be minted, each available in a special souvenir package.

Design and Symbolism

The coin’s obverse features three distinct scenes separated by stylized ropes, illustrating key moments from the story:

  • Kyrylo Kozhumyaka practicing his leatherworking craft,
  • children calling for his help,
  • and a princess being taken captive by a serpent.

On the reverse, a dramatic battle between Kyrylo Kozhumyaka and the serpent is depicted. The coin was designed by artist Alisa Ivanova, with sculpting contributions from Volodymyr Demianenko and Volodymyr Atamanchuk.

Sales will be conducted through the National Bank of Ukraine’s official online store, with the exact launch date to be announced on the institution’s website. The coin’s release coincides with the 30th anniversary of Ukraine’s Constitution.
