Kyiv Night Strike Leaves 81 Wounded; Ukraine Calls for UN Security Council Emergency Session
Massive Strike Rocks Kyiv
According to Главком: On the night of May 24, a large-scale attack hit the Ukrainian capital, leaving 81 people injured-including three children. Mayor Vitali Klitschko confirmed that 31 of the wounded are currently hospitalized, while two others were killed. The residence of Albania’s ambassador to Ukraine also sustained damage during the assault.
International Demands and Reactions
Ukraine’s leadership is urgently demanding a UN Security Council meeting, along with a joint session of the OSCE Forum for Security Cooperation and the OSCE Permanent Council. Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha stated that international bodies such as the UN, OSCE, Council of Europe, and UNESCO must deliver a firm and coordinated response to the aggressor, who is compensating for a lack of battlefield progress by terrorizing civilians.
“All of this demands decisive, coordinated action from the international community. We call on our partners to take strong multilateral steps to deter Russia and push it toward a comprehensive, just, and lasting peace,” Sybiha said.
Hungarian Foreign Minister Anita Orbán also condemned Russia’s overnight combined strike on Kyiv. Separately, French President Emmanuel Macron held a phone conversation with Belarus’s self-proclaimed leader, Alexander Lukashenko, on the same day.
This attack on Kyiv marks another escalation in the ongoing regional conflict, drawing heightened international concern. Ukraine’s push for global institutional action reflects its strategy to ramp up diplomatic pressure on Moscow and rally the world community toward stronger measures. The responses from nations like Hungary and France could shape the crisis’s trajectory and the level of continued international backing for Ukraine.
The recent strike on Kyiv is part of a troubling pattern of aggression, as evidenced by another assault that left five dead and numerous injured in both Kyiv and Kharkiv. This escalation highlights the urgent need for international support and coordinated responses to ensure the safety of civilians.
