Deadly Overnight Russian Attack: Casualties and Destruction Across Ukraine

According to ДСНС: A massive Russian missile and drone barrage overnight has left at least five people dead in Kyiv, with approximately 40 others injured in the capital. The attack also caused casualties in other regions: seven wounded in the Kyiv outskirts, 28 in Kharkiv, and two in Odesa Oblast. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed that 180 structures were damaged, including over 50 residential buildings. Search-and-rescue operations are ongoing in Kyiv's Darnytskyi district, where more than ten people remain missing under the rubble.

“As of now, we know of five dead in Kyiv from the overnight Russian attack. About 40 people were wounded in the capital. Another seven were injured in Kyiv Oblast. In Kharkiv, there are already 28 casualties. Two people were wounded in Odesa Oblast.”

Rescuers are still working in the Darnytskyi district, with Zelenskyy noting that “the search-and-rescue operation continues in the Darnytskyi district of Kyiv. They are looking for people under the rubble of a building. More than ten people are considered missing.”

Emergency response efforts have mobilized significant resources. “Across the country, over 750 State Emergency Service personnel and nearly 750 police officers have been deployed to deal with the aftermath of the shelling,” the president reported.

Attacks on Humanitarian Missions

In a separate incident in Kherson, Russian forces twice struck a vehicle belonging to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) using FPV drones. The vehicle was carrying the head of the OCHA office and eight staff members. “Today, during a humanitarian mission in Kherson, the Russians twice attacked an OCHA vehicle with FPV drones, and they could not have been unaware of which vehicle they were targeting,” Zelenskyy stated.

Despite the intensity of the assault, Ukraine's air defense systems intercepted a high percentage of incoming threats. “The overall interception rate is over 93%,” the president confirmed. The situation remains critical, and efforts to manage the consequences of the attacks continue.

This latest tragedy underscores the severe toll of the ongoing war on civilians and humanitarian operations. Strikes on residential areas and aid missions endanger lives and worsen the humanitarian crisis in affected regions. Rescue operations in Kyiv and other impacted zones are still underway, and their outcomes could significantly shift the overall picture. The large-scale deployment of emergency crews highlights the gravity of the situation and the urgent need to save survivors.

As the situation unfolds, the impact of Russian strikes extends beyond civilian casualties, affecting critical infrastructure as well. Recent attacks have also targeted Ukraine's energy grid and rescue operations across multiple regions, leading to further challenges for emergency responders.
