Assaults on Ukraine's Power Infrastructure

According to ДСНС: Russian forces targeted Ukraine's energy infrastructure, launching a second attack on State Emergency Service (SES) personnel in the Poltava region while they were already on site. These strikes resulted in casualties across multiple regions, including Poltava, Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kyiv. In Poltava, where Russian forces hit the same location with a missile after SES workers had arrived, four people were killed-among them two rescue workers.

  • The fallen rescuers are Viktor Kuzmenko, a Hero of Ukraine, and Dmytro Skryl.
  • Viktor Kuzmenko had responded to the aftermath of shelling more than 50 times.
  • Dmytro Skryl had served in the SES for over 20 years.

“Overnight, the Russians attacked energy infrastructure in the Poltava region. And they struck again with a missile in a very treacherous way, when SES workers were already on site-putting out the fire. As of now, dozens are known to be wounded. Sadly, four people were killed, including two rescuers.”

Volodymyr Zelenskyy

Meanwhile, in the Kharkiv region, Russian strikes injured four people and claimed one life. The President noted: “The Russians also struck the Kharkiv region. Four people were wounded. Sadly, one person died.”

In the Dnipropetrovsk region, attacks on critical infrastructure left three people injured. In Pavlohrad, a power line was damaged, leaving thousands of households without electricity. Zelenskyy stated: “In the Dnipropetrovsk region, they attacked critical infrastructure. Three people were injured in the region. In Pavlohrad, a power line was damaged, leaving thousands of families without electricity.”

Additionally, strikes hit Zaporizhzhia and the Kyiv region, wounding three people. “There were also strikes on Zaporizhzhia and the Kyiv region, where three people were injured. Overall, Russia's main targets tonight were our energy infrastructure,” Zelenskyy emphasized.

The President also condemned the cynicism of these attacks, remarking: “It is absolute cynicism to ask for silence to hold propaganda celebrations while launching such missile and drone strikes every day leading up to it.” He stressed the need for peace, adding: “Every day, Russia could cease fire, and that would stop the war and our responses. Peace is needed, and that requires real steps. Ukraine will act in a mirror-like manner.”

These assaults on energy infrastructure and rescue workers highlight the ongoing conflict's brutality, endangering civilians and first responders. Ukrainian President underscores the urgent need for peace, yet the situation remains tense as attacks persist, threatening the country's energy security. Such developments may prompt further international reactions and increase global pressure on Russia.

The recent attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure illustrate a troubling escalation in hostilities. In a related incident, a massive assault involving over 200 drones and ballistic missiles has left civilians injured in various regions, including Dnipro and Odesa. This pattern of aggression highlights the ongoing threat to both critical infrastructure and civilian safety.
