Russian Ambassador Summoned Following Attacks on Kyiv

According to Главком: Germany's Foreign Ministry has summoned the Russian ambassador in response to missile strikes on Kyiv and threats directed at diplomatic personnel. This move comes after a large-scale combined assault on Ukraine’s capital early on May 24, which damaged over 50 locations. Among the sites affected were:

  • the Lukyanivka market
  • two residential complexes near the U.S. Embassy
  • the Azerbaijani Embassy building
  • the National Art Museum
  • the Chornobyl Museum

Germany's foreign office issued a statement on its X social media account, stressing that Berlin is taking a firm stance against the Kremlin’s attempts to intimidate foreign diplomatic missions and escalate terror against Ukrainian civilians. The statement also noted that during the conversation, it was made unmistakably clear to the Russian side that such blackmail tactics from the Kremlin will yield no results, and that support for Ukraine will only be strengthened.

International Response

In addition, an emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council has been scheduled for Thursday, May 28, to address the sharp escalation of Russian aerial attacks on peaceful Ukrainian cities. The attacks on hospitals, schools, and German television studios, along with calls for the German embassy to leave Kyiv, demonstrate that Russia is relying on threats, terror, and escalation. As a result, Germany's Foreign Ministry decided to summon Russia’s ambassador in Berlin.

This situation highlights the intensifying conflict between Russia and Ukraine, as well as the international community's reaction to Moscow's aggressive actions.

The summoning of Russia’s ambassador underscores Germany's serious concern over the safety of diplomatic missions and civilians in Ukraine. The emergency UN Security Council meeting emphasizes the importance of international coordination in response to the escalation of violence, which could lead to new sanctions or other forms of support for Ukraine from Western nations.

As the situation escalates, the international community is responding decisively. The UN Security Council has convened an emergency session to discuss the recent surge in Russian attacks on Kyiv, which further underscores the urgency of diplomatic efforts to address the ongoing conflict and protect civilian lives.
