Phishing Messages Circulating on Viber

According to ХВИЛЯ: A new wave of phishing messages concerning social payments is spreading on Viber, causing alarm among Ukrainian users. The Ministry of Social Policy of Ukraine has issued a warning, referencing the Center for Strategic Communications. In this scheme, fraudsters posing as United Nations (UN) representatives are attempting to trick users into revealing the last 4 digits of a code sent via Viber.

This code grants scammers access to a victim's account or personal data, which can lead to severe consequences. It is crucial to remember that no legitimate organization, including the UN or any government body, will ever ask for verification codes sent via messenger to process payments. The Ministry of Social Policy urges citizens to:

"Never share any codes-even if a message appears to be official."

Vigilance in Digital Communications

This incident underscores the critical need for caution in all digital communications, especially during times of economic uncertainty when fraud attempts tend to increase. Citizens should be particularly wary of any messages related to financial matters and should verify information directly through official sources.
