Mandatory Vehicle Inspections for Commercial Fleets: Fines for Non-Compliance

According to ХВИЛЯ: The Main Service Center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs has announced mandatory technical inspections for specific vehicle categories and the consequences of ignoring them. This requirement is a key part of road safety legislation, and compliance is essential for commercial vehicle operators. Similar inspection regimes are common in many countries to ensure fleet safety.

Which Vehicles Require a Technical Inspection

The mandatory technical inspection applies to:

  • Trucks and their trailers,
  • Buses,
  • Taxis,
  • Passenger cars used for commercial transport of passengers or goods,
  • Specialized vehicles for transporting dangerous goods.

However, owners of standard passenger cars not used for profit, as well as motorcycle and moped drivers, are not required to undergo this inspection.

The absence of a valid inspection certificate can lead to serious consequences. Police or road safety inspectors have the authority to issue a citation for a traffic violation. Law enforcement officials note that lacking a valid certificate can be grounds for administrative fines and temporary restrictions on road use.

During the vehicle inspection, critical components such as brakes, steering, lights, tire condition, and window visibility are checked. Following the inspection, a document is issued specifying the date for the next mandatory service station visit.

The mandatory technical inspection is not a formality but an unconditional legal requirement, as confirmed by the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Commercial vehicle drivers are advised to adhere to these requirements to avoid fines and road-related issues.

The introduction of mandatory technical inspections for commercial transport aims to improve road safety and reduce the number of accidents caused by mechanical failures. Legislation in this area underscores the importance of regular maintenance for vehicles used commercially, as this directly impacts the safety of both drivers and passengers. Adherence to these rules can also foster greater responsibility among drivers and companies operating commercial fleets.
