Ukraine builds thousands of new shelters: how the population protection system will change

During the Inaugural meeting of the 'Coalition of Shelters for Ukraine: international partnership for the safety of the population', Ukraine's Strategy for the development of the civil protection shelter fund until 2034 was presented. The main goal of the strategy is to ensure the availability of shelters in educational institutions, medical facilities, and public buildings. It is planned to create an international coalition of shelters, ensuring shelter for all categories of the population, developing domestic production of equipment for protective structures and mobile shelters, as well as promoting a culture of safety among citizens.

According to the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, there are more than 61,000 shelters in Ukraine, which is only sufficient for half of the population. Therefore, a phased expansion of the network of protective structures has begun, including the construction of new shelters, modernization of existing ones, and updating legislation to maximize citizen protection.

Ukraine pays important attention to providing the population with accessible and reliable shelters, which is an important step towards strengthening the national security of the country.
