Ukrainian Actress Olga Sumska Shares Her Traditional Easter Recipes
Olga Sumska's Easter Traditions
According to Главком: Ukrainian film and theater actress Olga Sumska has revealed her family recipes for traditional Easter dishes, including decorated eggs and a special cheese bread. She shared the details of her holiday preparations on social media, extending Easter greetings to her followers. Easter, known as Paska in Ukraine, is one of the most significant holidays in the country, marked by specific culinary customs.
Sumska detailed her method for creating vibrant Easter eggs, known as krashanky. She explained that the eggs need to be boiled for 30 to 40 minutes.
"I'm in awe of these Easter eggs... You can boil them for less time, but the color won't be as rich. I used two pots: one with hibiscus, the other with turmeric and hibiscus combined, and let them cool in the dye for an hour. I also boiled some separately to decorate with stickers and other colors. I used store-bought dyes! It's simple! Have a cozy Easter!"
the actress wrote.
Recipes and Family Customs
Furthermore, Sumska provided her recipe for a traditional Easter cheese bread, or paska.
"You're already familiar with my cheese paskas. The recipe is simple, but with one condition: use market-bought farmer's cheese and home-laid eggs! So, for 1 kg of cheese, use 8 eggs, mash it all together, add a glass of sugar, vanilla, raisins. You can add pieces of dried apricots and orange zest. No semolina! No flour! I usually bake at 160°C for about an hour, but I keep an eye on it and reduce the temperature during the process so it doesn't burn and bakes through nicely! Happy Easter, friends!"
she posted.
Olga also mentioned that her husband, Vitaliy Borysyuk, was responsible for baking the main, flour-based paska:
"The main flour paska was baked by Vitaliy!! It turned out so tall and fluffy! This is the one time a year we take out the bread maker, a gift from our godfather, Volodya Horyansky, and something incredible is made."
Other Ukrainian celebrities who were preparing for the holiday include:
- Ada Rogovtseva, a People's Artist of Ukraine
