Tragedy in the mountain system of Pakistan
According to glavcom.ua: 31-year-old two-time Olympic biathlon champion Laura Dahlmeier died as a result of an incident in the mountain system in Pakistan. This was reported by 'Glavkom' citing Welt.
The athlete's death was confirmed today, July 30, by her management.
On Monday, July 28, Dahlmeier was caught in a rockfall while climbing Laila Peak in the Karakoram mountain system in Pakistan. Rescuers were not able to reach Laura immediately.
According to available information, the athlete sustained serious injuries at an altitude of 5700 m.
Today, July 30, due to bad weather, a helicopter could not be used in the rescue operation, so ground search and rescue efforts continued.
In memory of the fallen athletes
On the front, Yuri Bredak (call sign 'Clever') - a well-known Ukrainian rower - was killed. Yuri died on June 23, 2025, he was a master of sports in academic rowing and a champion of Ukraine. He represented Kyiv in various sporting competitions.
It is worth noting that the titled Ukrainian athlete Vitaliy Rymaruk also tragically died. The 26-year-old discus thrower was a youth champion of Ukraine and a medalist at adult championships. His sporting achievements will always be remembered.
