Final February Freeze: When a Sharp Warm-Up Will Hit Ukraine
According to ХВИЛЯ: Meteorologist Natalka Didenko's forecast for late February predicts a final wave of frost, followed by a sharp temperature rise starting February 23. According to the forecast, on February 20, 2025, nighttime temperatures across most of Ukraine will drop to -6...-12°C, with the country's north experiencing lows of -14°C.
In southern Ukraine, nighttime temperatures will range from 0 to -3°C. On February 20, daytime temperatures will be between -2 and -5°C, while the south will see warmer air of +1...+6°C. Snow is expected only in central and eastern regions. In Kyiv, conditions will be dry with a nighttime low of -10°C and a daytime high of -2°C.
Warming on the Horizon
The weekend of Saturday and Sunday will bring severe frosts from -12 to -15°C. However, a significant shift to much warmer air masses will begin across most of Ukraine from February 23.
“In our modern history, the final days of February for Ukrainians are filled with cloudy, bitter, and difficult memories,” said Natalka Didenko.
Thus, Ukrainians can anticipate a sharp warming trend following these final February frosts. This late-winter weather pattern is typical for the region, where cold snaps often give way to more spring-like conditions.
The warming forecast for late February could impact Ukraine's agricultural sector, as significant temperature swings may affect crop development. Such weather changes also carry social implications, as sharp temperature fluctuations often lead to shifts in energy consumption and public needs. Therefore, Ukrainians should prepare for the new weather conditions and the potential challenges they may bring.
