Europe has issued an ultimatum to Iran regarding its nuclear program: what is known about the sanctions

Deadline for Iran on nuclear negotiations
Європейські країни пред’явили вимоги Ірану щодо його ядерної програми: основні аспекти нових обмежень.

European countries France, Germany, and the United Kingdom warned the UN that they intend to restore all sanctions against Iran if it does not begin negotiations on its nuclear program by the end of August 2025. This became known from a letter signed by the foreign ministers of the three European states forming the E3 group, reported the Financial Times. The European countries threaten to activate the 'snapback' mechanism, which will automatically restore all international sanctions against Iran that were in place before 2015. The decision to activate this mechanism must be made by October, when the key provisions of the nuclear agreement between Iran, the E3, the USA, Russia, and China expire. During the July negotiations in Istanbul, the E3 countries offered Iran a deal, but the Iranian side has not yet responded. The Iranian foreign minister dismissed the threats from Europe, believing that there are no grounds for restoring sanctions. European countries assert that their actions are legal due to Iran's violation of the terms of the 2019 agreement. The approaching October deadline makes August decisive for the fate of Iran's nuclear program and stability in the Middle East.
