An Unconventional Way to See the World

According to УНІАН — Туризм: Conrad Warzecha and his partner, Karolina, have discovered a unique approach to traveling internationally: they look after high-end homes and pets while the owners are away. This arrangement allows them to stay in lavish villas without paying rent, enabling them to explore diverse countries and immerse themselves in new experiences. Over the past three years, they have visited 36 countries, living in 12 of them by house-sitting. During their travels, they stay in hotels or rented accommodations when not caring for homes. Their income comes from remote work online.

Travel Adventures and Lifestyle

One memorable experience for Conrad and Karolina was spending a full month in a chalet nestled in the French Alps.

“We spent an entire month in a chalet overlooking the mountains, feeling like we were on vacation. Two cats would drop by only in the mornings and afternoons to eat. We gave them a little attention but otherwise had the freedom to explore nearby lakes, enjoy the genuine alpine summer, and visit the local bakery for fresh pastries,” Conrad recalls.

According to the couple, three key qualities are essential for successful house and pet sitting:

  • Strong communication skills,
  • Ability to care for animals,
  • Neatness and attention to detail.

However, this travel method comes with its challenges. For example, while in Greece, they encountered a parasite infestation that led to a quarantine zone and required two weeks of extensive cleaning. On another occasion, the dog they were looking after exhibited aggressive behavior, even lunging at them inside the bedroom.

Conrad emphasizes that this lifestyle gives them freedom from being tied down to any one place:

“We can travel the world and live in beautiful homes without being anchored to a single location. It’s the best of both worlds.”

This way, the couple enjoys living in residences they once only dreamed of, while continuously discovering new opportunities and horizons.

Their story highlights an emerging trend in travel where people adopt alternative ways to explore without hefty accommodation costs. House and pet sitting is gaining popularity among travelers who want to combine adventure with meaningful experiences. Such practices also encourage cultural exchange and help build connections among people from different countries.
