The Ministry of Health will ensure Ukraine receives vaccines by 2026: how the logistics system works

Vaccine logistics until 2026
Міністерство охорони здоров'я гарантує постачання вакцин в Україну до 2026 року: як організована система доставки.

During a visit to Lviv region, Health Minister Viktor Liashko held a meeting on providing the region with vaccines and the operation of the cold chain. The aim of the meeting was to ensure the continuity of vaccinations and control the quality of each dose from the moment of delivery to the medical cabinet. Issues of supply routes, temperature regimes, forming orders, and warehouse operations were discussed.

The meeting took place at the regional center for disease control and prevention in Lviv. Here, vaccine stocks, logistics, and needs planning were thoroughly analyzed, and joint actions with the regional team were agreed upon. The regional warehouse and equipment ensuring a stable cold chain under any conditions, even during military conflict, were also inspected.

“This year, Ukraine has received 2.7 million doses of vaccines against 10 infectious diseases from the vaccination calendar. Deliveries for 2026 have already started, totaling 510 thousand doses. This fully meets the urgent needs for most vaccines, while the remainder will be purchased with state budget funds in 2026. Since the beginning of the year, children have received over two million vaccinations,” emphasized the minister.

Modern system of vaccine storage and transportation

The vaccine storage and transportation system in Ukraine is considered one of the most modern. Refrigerators and freezers (over 7 thousand installed in warehouses and medical institutions), cold rooms, refrigerated vehicles, and cooler bags are used for storage, ensuring the necessary temperature and quality of each vaccine dose, even in the absence of electricity.

If the cold chain is contaminated, vaccines may lose their effectiveness, so it is important that all stages of vaccine transportation and storage are strictly controlled and all safety requirements are met. Thanks to meticulous planning and a higher level of technical equipment, Ukraine has ensured reliable access to vaccines for the population of the country.
