Preferential customs clearance for electric vehicles in Ukraine

According to ХВИЛЯ: Preferential customs clearance for electric vehicles in Ukraine is in effect until the end of 2025, but from January 1, 2026, these privileges will be canceled. Currently, importers of electric cars only pay an excise tax when clearing vehicles. The formula for calculating the excise tax is 1 euro for every kWh of battery capacity.

Procedure for importing electric vehicles

The period for importing an electric vehicle into Ukraine after submitting the customs declaration is 30 days. It is important to note that the car must be delivered to the customs clearance no later than 10 days from the moment of crossing the border.

According to expert assessments, extending customs clearance privileges may cause budget losses, complicating the decision to extend them in the future. In this regard, electric vehicle owners are advised to pay attention to the changes that will come into effect in 2026.

The cancellation of preferential customs clearance for electric vehicles may affect the electric car market in Ukraine, particularly the price and availability of such vehicles for consumers. This may also encourage potential buyers to consider purchasing electric cars before the new conditions take effect, which, in turn, could lead to an increase in the import of electric vehicles in the coming years.
