Russian shelling of Ovidiopol: 20 tons of harmful substances in the air due to an oil depot fire

According to glavcom.ua: On December 1, a fire broke out at a decommissioned oil depot in Ovidiopol due to Russian shelling. The fire area was 220 square meters, and as a result of the fire, over 20 tons of pollutants entered the air, including 17.4 tons of carbon dioxide (CO₂), reported the State Environmental Inspection.

The received information was sent to the Operational Headquarters of the State Environmental Inspection to be included in the unified register of damages caused to the environment by armed aggression.

Negative impact on the environment

Such events have a long-term negative impact on the environment. The restoration of the atmosphere, soils, and adjacent areas may take several years.

Russian shelling led to a fire at the oil depot in Ovidiopol, which caused the emission of more than 20 tons of pollutants, posing a serious threat to the environment and the health of residents. This is extremely important to consider when resolving the conflict in eastern Ukraine.
