The designer of Russian Iskanders has died: what is known about his death
In Volgograd, the chief designer of 'TsKB-Titan' Valerian Sobolev has passed away, who led the creation of launchers for the 'Topol' and 'Iskander' systems. He died at the age of 87 after a long illness.
Biography of Valerian Sobolev
He was born on August 19, 1938, in Stalingrad, now Volgograd. After finishing his studies at the Stalingrad Mechanical Institute, he worked at the 'Barricades' factory. Under his leadership, missile systems such as 'Pioneer', 'Oka', 'Topol', 'Tochka-U', and 'Iskander' were created. He also served as the first deputy head of the administration of the Volgograd region from 1991 to 1994.
