The Southern Bridge is restoring traffic to the right bank of Kyiv from October 30

In Kyiv, starting from October 30, following the damage to the Southern Bridge, automobile traffic is gradually being restored from the left bank to the right bank. Initially, vehicles weighing up to 10 tons will be allowed to pass in one lane, while the opposite direction remains closed. This is reported by KMDА.

Traffic on the Southern Bridge in Kyiv: who will be allowed from October 30

The decision was made after a technical inspection of the structure and conclusions from the National Institute for Infrastructure Development expertise. The permit applies, in particular, to passenger cars, but does not mean a complete opening of the crossing.

Under the first stage, the following conditions apply:

• traffic is only allowed from the left bank to the right bank;
• one lane is open;
• the vehicle weight is permitted up to 10 tons.

For drivers, this means that the bridge can only be used in one direction. Returning from the right bank to the left will have to be planned through another crossing. The city authorities have not yet named the time for opening the reverse direction.

After the closure of the crossing on October 27, bus routes in the capital were changed, in particular, numbers 22 and 91 were directed via the Darnytsky Bridge. The new message from KMDА concerns automobile traffic and does not contain updated bus routes.

Repair of the Southern Bridge and the metro: what is known as of October 30

«The traffic from the right bank to the left bank remains closed for now. Technical works are ongoing in this section», the KMDА reported. They promise to announce additional information about the restoration of traffic in this direction.

At the same time, municipal enterprises, along with scientists, are developing technical solutions for the repair of damaged structures. Among them are elements that ensure the operation of the metro system. Opening the automobile lane does not itself mean the resumption of train movement.

Due to the closure of the crossing, Kyiv residents have started to use electric scooters between Osokorky and Vidyubichi. The partial launch of cars returns another option for traveling to the right bank, but the timelines for the complete restoration of the bridge remain unknown.
