We will pay 9 thousand hryvnias: expert Popenko named new amounts for communal services
The expert warns of critical consequences of rising utility tariffs
Utility expert Oleg Popenko expressed dissatisfaction with the government's plans to raise tariffs on gas and electricity. According to his forecasts, this will lead to a real increase of 300%, making utility services unaffordable for most of the population.
'We are not talking about 50%, but we currently pay 7 hryvnias 96 kopecks for gas. In fact, we are talking about a 300% increase on the market price of gas. This is fundamentally different from what was published in the news',
the expert emphasizes.
Social catastrophe and rising costs of services
Popenko emphasizes that raising tariffs will be fatal for a large number of citizens, as many Ukrainians will not be able to pay such high bills. Currently, the price of gas on the Ukrainian market can reach 30 thousand hryvnias per thousand cubic meters, which is too high for most of the population.
Issues with subsidies and mass abandonment of housing
Popenko also discussed potential issues with increasing subsidies in the event of rising tariffs. The expert also warned of possible consequences in the form of mass abandonment of housing, referencing similar situations in other cities in Ukraine.
Comparison with European experience
Popenko reminded how Europeans reacted to rising tariffs in their countries, emphasizing that the situation in Ukraine may be even more complicated due to economic problems. He urged the government to pay attention to social policy and interaction with the population.
Raising tariffs on utility services, such as gas and electricity, can lead to a significant increase in costs for Ukrainian citizens and become a cause of social crisis, as many people will not be able to pay bills. Experts urge the government to take this issue seriously and seek solutions that would not burden the population's budgets.
