The Fencing Federation of Ukraine against the participation of Russian athletes in the World Championships

According to glavcom.ua: The Fencing Federation of Ukraine expressed its dissatisfaction with the decision of the International Fencing Federation (FIE) to allow Russian athletes with military ranks to compete in the World Championships. In the statement of the FFU, it was indicated that this is offensive to both Ukrainian athletes and the entire sporting world.

"This is a slap in the face not only to Ukrainian athletes, but to the entire global sporting community!", - said the FFU.

The president of the Fencing Federation of Ukraine, Mykhailo Iliashov, emphasizes that this is a farce and hopes that other federations will view the situation more critically. The FFU is preparing to take legal measures to oppose this decision.

"We once again publicly appeal to the NSDC and the SBU to take legal measures against the leadership of the International Fencing Federation", - says the FFU's statement.

Russian fencers at the World Championships

Among the Russian athletes allowed to participate in the World Championships are Major Sofia Velikaya, Lieutenant Yana Egoryan, and Ensign Olga Nikitina. These two fencers will compete in the saber events.

It is worth noting that Sofia Velikaya is an ambassador for the sports movement "Healthy Homeland" and has ties to Russian President Putin, whose activities extend to the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine.

The World Fencing Championships will be held in Tbilisi from July 22 to July 30, where Russian athletes will compete under a neutral status.

The conclusion: The Fencing Federation of Ukraine expressed protest against the decision of the International Fencing Federation to allow Russian athletes with military ranks to participate in the World Championships. It has taken a decisive stance on this issue and plans to take legal measures to change this situation.
