Weather in Ukraine: warming up to +6
Після короткого потепління на +6°C, Україна знову зіткнеться з різким похолоданням, починаючи з 30 січня.

Ukraine's Late-January 2024 Weather Forecast

According to Главком: A brief period of warmer, wet, and windy weather is expected across Ukraine in late January 2024, but this will be abruptly cut short by a severe cold wave starting on January 30. On Saturday, January 27, the warmest conditions are forecast for the western regions, with temperatures ranging from +1 to +6 degrees Celsius. Southern areas will see temperatures of +1 to +3 degrees, while in Crimea, the mercury will climb to between +3 and +6 degrees.

In contrast, the coldest weather will be felt in the eastern oblasts, where temperatures will plummet to between -5 and -9 degrees. Central regions will experience a range from 0 to -5 degrees. In the capital, Kyiv, forecasts predict temperatures from -1 to -4 degrees, while the surrounding Kyiv and Zhytomyr regions will hover around zero. The Chernihiv and Sumy regions may face temperatures from -3 to -6 degrees, and in Zaporizhzhia, readings will be between -2 and -5 degrees.

Impending Cold Snap and Its Effects

On January 28-29, daytime temperatures across most of Ukraine are expected to remain above freezing. However, a new wave of cold air is forecast to sweep across the country starting January 30, potentially lasting until around February 4. In Kyiv, temperatures could drop as low as -7 to -11 degrees Celsius. This pattern is typical for the region's continental climate, where rapid shifts between mild and frigid air masses are common in winter.

Such a significant temperature swing in late January is a critical factor that can impact daily life, affecting transportation, the energy grid, and agriculture. The anticipated cold snap requires public preparation for winter conditions, including ensuring proper heating and exercising caution on roads. Staying informed with the latest meteorological updates is essential for responding promptly to these changing weather conditions.
