This news was confirmed by both the Ivan Franko National Academic Drama Theater and the Kyiv National I. K. Karpenko-Kary Theatre, Cinema and Television University. Shavarsky was approaching his 80th birthday in July 2026.
His Career and Legacy as an Educator
Born in 1946, Oleg Shavarsky began his artistic journey in 1968 after graduating from the acting faculty at Kyiv National I. K. Karpenko-Kary Theatre, Cinema and Television University. He launched his stage career at the Ivan Franko Theater in Kyiv, performing in notable productions such as:
- Tevye the Dairyman
- Martin Borulya
- The Government Inspector
- Nazar Stodolya
- Chasing Two Hares
- Richard III
Between 1970 and 1972, he also contributed to the Ivan Kocherha Zhytomyr Music and Drama Theater. In 1975, he completed his studies at the directing faculty of the same university.
For more than 50 years, Shavarsky was a dedicated professor at Kyiv National Theatre, Cinema and Television University, where he specialized in actor’s craft and drama directing. His mentorship shaped the careers of many prominent Ukrainian performers, including Irina Lanovenko, Kateryna Svyrydenko, Oleksandr Formanchuk, and Oleksandr Pecherytsia. His impact on Ukrainian theatrical education has been profound and lasting.

Oleg Shavarsky was honored with the Marian Krushelnytsky Prize from the National Union of Theatre Figures of Ukraine. His colleagues emphasized, 'His pedagogical legacy and professional expertise will live on through the artistic achievements of his students.'
