Lawsuit against Zheleznyak: what is known about the Mindich case and why it is talked about

People's Deputy Yaroslav Zheleznyak informed about the details of the lawsuit against him from businessman Timur Mindich. It concerns a case regarding the protection of honor, dignity, and business reputation due to public statements about corruption investigations. 

Mindich's lawsuit against Zheleznyak: what caused the court case

According to Zheleznyak, the lawsuit relates to his comments on YouTube and Telegram regarding the anti-corruption investigation previously covered by NABU and SAP.

The key subject of the dispute became the use of the term «criminal organization». The plaintiff believes that this goes beyond the limits of permissible criticism and is not confirmed by judicial decisions.

At the same time, the deputy emphasizes that similar formulations have already been used in the public space, including by anti-corruption bodies.

Court case against Mindich: what demands have been made

The lawsuit states that the publications of the deputy allegedly affected the reputation of the plaintiff and caused «moral suffering».

Among the demands:

• recognition of information as false

• compensation for moral damage

The amount of compensation is stated as symbolic — 200 hryvnias.

According to Zheleznyak, the case was initially filed in the Pechersk court but was later transferred to the Shevchenkivsky district court at the place of his registration.

What lies behind the conflict between Mindich and Zheleznyak

The deputy connects the lawsuit with a broader anti-corruption case being investigated by law enforcement agencies.

It concerns potential abuses in the public sector, particularly in the energy sector. According to the investigation, these cases involve multi-million sums and have caused significant public resonance.

Zheleznyak stated that as a people's deputy and head of the relevant committee, he has an obligation to publicly speak about such facts.

He also emphasized that the lawsuit will not affect further work on exposing corruption.

The situation surrounding the case remains resonant, as it combines a legal conflict and loud anti-corruption investigations that have been discussed in the public domain for a long time.

It should be noted that Mindich left the territory of Ukraine a few hours before the search conducted by NABU.
