First of all, you should determine your so-called sleep style. If you prefer sleeping on your back, choose a medium-firm pillow that supports your head without raising it too high. Regular side sleeping encourages choosing a firmer pillow. This way, you can keep your head and neck in line with your spine. If stomach sleeping is your usual position, you should select a soft and flat pillow to avoid neck strain. In other words, even your favorite sleep position affects which pillow to buy.
When choosing a pillow, you can also pay attention to the filling material. It determines comfort during use and extends the pillow's lifespan.
What materials are currently the most relevant:
- Down and feathers. Very soft and flexible, but can cause allergies.
- Memory foam. Maintains the shape of the head and neck, reduces pressure on joints.
- Latex. A material that provides good support and has antimicrobial properties.
- Polyester. Affordable and hypoallergenic, but may lose shape quickly.
For convenience, you can also consider the height of the pillow. A low pillow (up to 10 cm) is suitable for those who sleep on their stomach, while a medium pillow (10-12 cm) is for those who sleep on their back. A high pillow, approximately 12+ cm, is suitable for those who sleep on their side.

The ideal pillow can be selected based on the simplest criterion - comfort in use. Simply put, make sure that the pillow provides adequate support, but is not too hard. It should be comfortable and maintain its shape well.
It would also be beneficial to consider the hypoallergenic properties of the pillow. The material and filler of the pillow should always be the top priority, followed by other factors.
Speaking of “service life”, replacing the pillow every 1-2 years ensures constant comfort and support.
