Ukraine's PM Warns of Humanitarian Catastrophe as Energy Grid is Targeted
Ukrainian Prime Minister Meets Latvian Parliamentary Speaker
According to Кабмін: Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko met with the Speaker of the Latvian Saeima, Daiga Mieriņa, to discuss the critical state of Ukraine's energy infrastructure following severe attacks. Svyrydenko stressed that the aggressor state is deliberately seeking to create a humanitarian catastrophe, particularly in Kyiv and the Kyiv region, as well as in other cities.
With temperatures dropping to -20 degrees Celsius, the issue of energy security has become especially urgent. Yulia Svyrydenko noted that Latvia has strongly condemned the targeted and barbaric actions of the aggressor and continues to support Ukraine. She also highlighted that Latvia systematically allocates 0.25% of its GDP to aid Ukraine, a clear demonstration of the genuine friendship between the two nations.

This meeting underscores the vital importance of international solidarity in countering aggression, particularly regarding energy security, which becomes a matter of survival during the harsh winter months. The sustained support from Latvia and other allies is crucial for Ukraine as the military conflict continues and the risk of a widespread humanitarian crisis grows. These attacks on civilian infrastructure are part of a wider strategy to break Ukrainian resilience during winter.
