Border Guards Apprehend Man Disguised as Elderly Woman in Attempted Crossing
Illegal Border Crossing Attempt
According to Главком: Ukrainian border guards thwarted an illegal border crossing attempt at the 'Novi Troyany' checkpoint in the Bolgrad district of Odesa region. A 30-year-old man, disguised as an elderly woman, was attempting to enter Moldova using documents belonging to a person born in 1954. His attempt at concealment was highlighted by a headscarf he was wearing. A protocol was drawn up under Part 1 of Article 204 of Ukraine's Code of Administrative Offenses. This incident occurs amid heightened security and strict border controls across Ukraine.
Additionally, the female driver who accompanied the man has been reported to the National Police of Ukraine. She is suspected of committing a criminal offense under Article 332 of Ukraine's Criminal Code, which deals with the illegal crossing of the state border.
Bishop Detained on Separate Charges
In a separate case in Ivano-Frankivsk, Bishop Kyrylo (Mykhailiuk) of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine was detained. He is suspected of issuing fake ordination certificates to help individuals evade military mobilization. The court partially granted the Security Service of Ukraine's request for custody but allowed the suspect to be released on bail of 233,000 hryvnias. These events underscore the ongoing efforts of Ukrainian law enforcement to combat various forms of legal evasion during the current conflict.
Ukraine has significantly tightened border security and internal legal enforcement in recent years due to the ongoing war. Incidents like the attempted border crossing demonstrate the lengths to which some individuals will go to avoid legal obligations. The detention of the bishop further highlights the serious measures being taken to counter corruption and mobilization evasion, which are critical priorities under the country's martial law.
